5. Human Eye and Colourful world
The human eye is a wonderful natural optical instrument that allows us to see the beautiful and colourful world around us. In this lesson, students learn about the structure of the eye, including parts like the cornea, lens, retina, and pupil, and how these parts work together to form images on the retina. The lesson also explains common vision defects such as myopia (short-sightedness) and hypermetropia (long-sightedness) and how they can be corrected using suitable lenses.
This chapter also explores why our world appears colourful. It explains phenomena like the dispersion of light, which produces the seven colours of the rainbow, and scattering of light, which makes the sky appear blue and sunsets appear reddish. By understanding these concepts, students realize how light interacts with the atmosphere and our eyes to create the amazing colours we observe in nature every day.
